Time to share

I have a fear of sharing pics of my creative space.  I am not sure why, but I need to get over it.  I have received some emails from folks requesting me to share more of my space--not just my inspiration board.  So here it goes.

I actually found time to tackle a crafting project last week, and made a handful of wreaths from some of my fabric scraps.  I didn't have the patience to make one large fabric wreath, so I made all of mine small and I have to say I think they turned out really cute.  They were so quick and easy to make.  I think I will leave them up all year round.
It's funny, as I look at these photos I see all the items that have been found at estate sales and thrift shops, and it makes my eyes water with all the fun memories of shopping with my family and friends.

Have a great week everyone!

Favorite Finds {guest series}: Julia of San Diego Songbird

Hello bink & boo readers!  First, let me start by telling you how insanely hard it was to narrow this down to just 5 finds.  As an avid thrifter/eBayer/Craigslister/side-of-the-road-junk-collector, I have a new favorite find at least once a week.  In order to narrow it down, I chose some of my finds with a sentimental meaning and threw in a flavor of the month for good measure!

1.  "Eames" Lounge: This is a knock off but it's still so very comfortable.  My lovely friend, Araby, was going to leave this behind in her old casa or donate it to a thrift store until I locked eyes with it.  Free is my favorite word... especially when the free item comes with thoughts of an amazing friend!

2.  Flea Market Table: This was part of a set that my hubby and I bought quite a few years ago.  Before he and I were married or even lived together, we found this two-table set at the local flea market.  I made him talk the guy into letting us have both tables for some ludicrous price and the seller agreed because everyone loves my husband (everyone says no to me!)  It was a great price, a great set and the first joint furniture purchase for The Wheelers:)
3.  Heirloom Engagement Ring: This is the most sentimental of all of my finds.  This was my great grandparent's engagement ring and my mom wore it when she and my dad were first married.  I am known in my family as the shadiest grandchild who will call dibs on anything and everything I possibly can.  I probably called dibs on this ring when I was like 5 years old.  My mom and grandmommy passed it down to me and now I wear it everyday as my own engagement ring.  The filigree and tiny detailing on this ring are seriously amazing.
4.  Mr. Whale: This little dude is a flavor of the month but I am kind of obsessed with him right now.  He was originally $15 at my favorite thrift (ludicrous!) I had a hard time passing on him but went back the next week and he had been marked down to just $5.  Sold!  To the annoying lady who is always asking for price reductions!

Thanks for having me!  xo jules

Thanks for sharing Jules!   I hope one day we can hit the junkin' trails together.

Basic Black

If I had an extra few hundred dollars laying around I would "invest" in a new black bag.  I need a black bag. I am in love with the last one, and have it in brown and it is the most functional bag for my life and style, but the larger size is no longer available--it's smaller now.
Which one do you like?

Seahorses

I have been eyeing this Jonathan Adler pillow for a while.   I love it, but not enough to buy it, besides it matches nothing in my home.  I mean NOTHING.  Just so happens look at what I stumbled upon at an estate sale.
I love it!  It still matches nothing in my home, but that's ok it was free.  Actually, I think I am going to frame it and add it to the gallery wall in my office.  Seahorses make happy.

Hope you all had a great weekend, cheers to the new week!

Favorite Finds {guest series}: Haydee of Happenstance

Walrus Vase - This little vase makes me so happy and cheery every time I see it.  I found it at a yard sale years ago.  I love the colors and well, the random walrus that's painted on it.  Putting hot pink flowers in it is my favorite thing to do.
Vintage Chairs - A friend of mine was moving and wanted to get rid of these chairs for $100 total.  So I snatched them up with the idea of getting them reupholstered.  Haven't done it yet, but now that we're settled in our new house it's on the agenda.
A vintage Oleg Cassini trench that I found at a thrift shop years ago.  I had reluctantly gone with my mom to run an errand and while she was doing her thing I popped into this thrift shop and found this vintage Oleg Cassini trench for $10!  And the best part was that it fit me perfectly!!!  My all-time favorite apparel find, hands down.

Ummm, Haydee?  That is one heck of an apparel find, and pretty please come back and share the chairs when they are finished.  For those of you who don't know Haydee, she is: wildly funny, the coolest guys girl and girl's girl, she is one of the most beautiful women that I have met, she makes you feel like an old friend (even though you just met), and she is a wonderfully kind person with a wicked sense of humor.  Hugs Haydee, and thanks for sharing!  Oh and by the peeps, you pronounce her name like Heidi.  For the longest time I just called her Happenstance (her blog's name), and then when I finally learned her name I prounced it hey-d.  Ooops, I couldn't have been the first.  Right?

inspiration to creation

It's not to early to wish you all a Merry Christmas, is it?  Bah humbug!  Once November rolls around it's officially Christmas time... at least to me... and retailers.  It's my FAVORITE time of the year.  And one of my favorite places to be inspired is at the etsy shop of boopsiedaisy.  Her work makes me so happy, while at the same time giving me a touch of the creeps--I mean that in the nicest way possible.  Both our Merry Christmas bib and the Happy Holidays bib were inspired by her photography.

Favorite Finds

My best friend texted me yesterday to confirm what I had already suspected--I can't suppress the Mexicana any longer.  It's coming out.  First the glitter, and now animal print.  I absolutely love this vintage Echo scarf that I scored at an estate sale.  I even slipped into Mexicana mode when I picked up and said, "ay, iss so purrrdy."  Help me, I am turning into my great grandmother.  My mom, my aunt, and I always make fun of the way our family talks.  It's so fun to do when we are together, but I realize I just come off as crazy when I am talking to myself at the estate sales.
And this bowl...of course I was totally drawn to the colors, but it's also worn and chipped in all the right places.  It's total vintage vaquera.

How about you, did you score anything really cool over the weekend?  I would love for you to share your treasures with me?

Sparkle-icious!

I have been inspired by and drawn to some sparkle-icious things lately.  It all started with the post about my {absolute} favorite find.  Well, I finally got my hair cut on Thursday night, and while at the salon I picked up a bottle of sparkly nail polish--so not me, but I couldn't resist.  Then Friday I stumbled upon the etsy shop, Redo My Shoe and was in awe over the glitzy Louboutin makeovers.  I am not sure what it is, but I can't fight the force that is pulling me towards all things glittery.  There is no denying it's the Mexican in me, but please slap me if you ever see me wearing a rhinestone bebe t-shirt.  I have to draw the line somewhere.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend.  Cheers to a great week!

Favorite Finds {guest series}

Switching things up a bit, I thought it would be fun to take "favorite finds" on the {virtual} road.  I have asked some of my favorite bloggers, friends, and folks I admire to share their favorite finds with me.  First up, the amazingly talented Alexis of Fern & Feather.

Hello bink & boo, Alexis here from Fern & Feather... It has been so much fun looking around and finding my favorite treasures. I think that my answers would change weekly but here are the things around my home that are making me especially happy right now... enjoy.

My grandmother gave me this juicer a few years ago. I loved the design and knew that it was over 50 years old but I totally didn’t get it until a couple weeks ago when I was at Whisk & Ladle in La Jolla and I saw them juicing with a similar one. I was in a bit of a Lavender Honey Martini daze when it hit me... ‘I have one of those.’ Since then I have dusted it off and we have been juicing up a
storm. delish.
This was an engagement gift from my great aunt it has been in our family for years and most recently has been sitting on the table next to our sofa. It makes me so happy.
I bought this book at a flea market in the South of France. It is a beautiful little book on how to keep your house clean and tidy. Although I don’t speak French I am trying to be a French housewife by osmosis ;).
AAAhhh. Milk glass. Sigh. My grandmother told me when I was about 13 that I needed to start collecting something. She told me that the hunt is much more fun if you have something in mind. After years of collecting Milk Glass I have been focusing on chickens as of late... this is my hands down favorite piece. I call him Ernest.

And finally this painting has been at the tippy top of my favorites for a long time now. Hidden
behind a few other pieces this beautiful painting was waiting for me to find her at the Long Beach
flea market. That is all I know about the history although the back of the painting is definitely old, the
frame has a stamp that says something about Spain and the crackle on the piece is authentic. I love this
piece. I hope it hangs in our great great grandchildren’s house one day.

{absolute} Favorite Find

I have held onto this coat for so many years.  This is my absolute, all time, favorite find.  I have worn it maybe twice in 10 years.  This morning I started to list it on etsy, but  quickly deleted the listing.  I just can't let it go--it's too fabulous.

Layering

We have been experiencing a bit of a heat wave in Southern California, so the only kind of layering I can imagine is in regards to jewelry.  I scored this tre chic trio of jewels for only a few bucks.

P.S. You might have noticed the blog has a new look.  I was tinkering around in blogger last night, trying to change one thing... and poof! I was forced to change the entire blog.  I am thinking next time I need to download my template before I try to make changes.  Oops.  Oh well, the new look is growing on me.

Butter Cake

One of my favorite go-to dessert recipes for fall is the Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake from Miss Paula Dean.  It's quick, easy (super easy), and oh so delicious.  I made it for a couple of parties we went to over the weekend and it seemed to be a hit.  It's the ultimate in home cooked pumpkin comfort.  Enjoy!

CAKE
1 package yellow cake mix. 18.25 oz
1 egg
8 Tbs. butter, melted

FILLING
1 8 oz. package cream cheese
1 15 oz. can of pumpkin
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
8 Tbs. butter, melted
16 oz. of powdered sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
For Cake: Combine all ingredients and mix well.  Pat into bottom of lightly greased 13x9 baking pan.

For Filling: In large bowl, beat cream cheese and  pumpkin until smooth.  Add, eggs, vanilla, butter, and beat together.  Next, add powdered sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, mix well.

Spread mixture over cake batter and bake for 40-50 minutes (I cook mine for 45 minutes and it's perfect).  DO NOT over bake.  Center should be a little gooey.

shamon!

 I'm a lover not a fighter.
You know I'm bad, I'm bad, you know it.
...you will always be the lady{bug} in my life.
Ben, the two of us need look no more...

Yes, we dressed Bronson as Michael Jackson.  I made his costume at the last minute, but I think it turned out pretty well.  All that matters is that Bronson loved it, he was a champ for keeping his glove and hat on all night.

I hope you all had a safe and fun halloween.  Now get ready, because here come the holidays!  Have a great week.
